Monieux is the village that plays a central role in the story of 'The Convert' by Stefan Hertmans. He describes in the novel that this dopr was once called the mountain of Jupiter or 'Mons Jovis'. It is also noted that in the old chapel on the edge of the ravine a stone with Latin inscriptions was once found, dedicated to Mars Nabelcus, a deity worshipped by the Romans in the region.
