Description

Le retable de Gand a été peint sur des panneaux de bois. Un seul panneau a été coupé en deux pour montrer le recto et le verso lors d'une exposition à Berlin au XIXe siècle. C'est juste ce panneau (en fait deux panneaux) qui a été volé. D'un côté se trouvait l'image de Saint Jean-Baptiste, le saint patron de l'église qui se trouvait à l'emplacement de Saint-Bavon.
