Start at the Sint-Margaretakerk (1882) in Sint-Margriete, part of Sint-Laureins.
Keep the church and cemetery behind you and walk to the main road, the Sint-Margrietestraat. There you go to the statue of Reynaert and King Nobel, part of the Reynaert Cycle Route, turn left until you reach the old town hall.
Turn right onto the tarmac of Hontseindestraat. This is how you walk out of the agglomeration. After 800m of walking, turn left into the narrow Groenendijk. You are immediately in the field, in the tranquility of the Meetjesland with the creeks, peat pits flooded by the Westerschelde in the 14th-15th centuries, now a paradise for fishermen and birdwatchers. You turn around, ignore a road on the left (you'll turn in here later) and step to a quadrangle.
Turn right in the Wildekensleegte: you walk here in the border area with the Netherlands. On the next T turn left and 500 m further right (to cycle junction 86), again in a quiet area.
Bend towards the trees and you end up in a picturesque spot, with a picnic table and a bench. To the right of the road is the Hollandersgat creek and to the left the Blokkreek, both popular with anglers.
Follow the road along the Blokkreek and turn left on the next T. Keep following the road, until a crossroads. In front of you, the Netherlands is a good stone's throw away, on the right is a white border post 100 m further. Turn left, past GR lines and cycle route signs (direction Sint-Laureins). Here you walk through the Beoosteredepolder, along a spur of the Vrouwkenshoek creek.
A little further on you turn left on the Kantijne (right). On the dike of the Leopold Canal you turn left and you cross the busy Vlamingstraat. On the other side of the Langewegbrug you can relax in Fred's Café / restaurant with terrace. On both banks of the silent canal - dug in 1846-1848 between Boekhoute and Heist as a drainage canal - double rows of trees provide shade and picturesque pictures.
Follow the earth road to the left or right of the canal (forbidden for cars and motorcycles), until the Zonnebrug. Then turn left on the concrete road next to the tree dike. Turn on a T to the right, through a dike opening, and at the end of the tree dike to the left: here you can walk on the dike. You get a magnificent view of the vast Boerekreek (39 ha) on the right, with the accompanying provincial sports center and the water tower in Sint-Jan-in-Eremo in the distance.
Descend to the traffic road at 't Hoogh Huys and cross very carefully in this bend (with mirror). Follow the concrete road diagonally to the left, which will take you along the end of the Roeselarekreek. The church comes into view, but the road follows its own twists and turns, back to the quadrangle where you were before.
Turn right and a few hundred meters on a well-known road, until you reach an asphalt road on the right (with sign agricultural learning path). Take this road and you will pass some large farms, again with info from the Rural Path. This Groenstraat flows into the Sint-Margrietestraat. Turn left, to your starting point (careful, initially no sidewalk). After about 400m you will come to an information site about a former weighbridge, a picnic bench and a Reynaert statue. From here you just follow the road to the center and take a wide church road 200 m further right, which takes you behind the St. Margaret's Chapel to the church.

Fancy a detour of about five kilometers? Then at the site of the weighbridge, turn into the Molenkreekstraat to the Molenkreek, the fifth creek of this village. At the end of the creek, on a T, follow the Sint-Livinuspolder on the left. You approach the border with the Netherlands again and before the white border post you turn left, towards walking junction 93. You meander further through the polder country to a T where you follow the Sint-Margrietestraat on the left to the church.
