Colorado in opposite direction through Grand Canyon

Geologist believe that at least a part of the Colorado was flowing in the opposite direction (vs the curent flow). It's hard to imagine that such a giant river can switch its course of direction when you walk along the Grand Canyon. But you can see an indication of that opposite flow very clearly on a satellite image (top right).

The tributaries of the Colorado flow towards the Colorado on this image as if the river flows from south to north. Geomorphologists call this kind of tributaries 'barbed tributaries'. Therefore, they believe that this shape is a relict from previous times, when the Colorado was flowing from south to north.

  2. The walk doesn't need a destination, but the activity of walking itself is a goal

Are you looking for something philosophical and not too light with a link to your hobby 'walking'. Then you should definitely consider 'Walking' by Henry David Thoreau.

Henry David Thoreau was a great advocate for walking at least a few hours a day. In his cult book "Walking" he argues that one should walk 4 hours a day. That way you stay healthy, both mentally and physically. For Thoreau, the walk doesn't need a destination, but the activity of walking itself is a goal. Thoreau sees the walker as a Walker Errant, a king in his own world. According to Thoreau, walkers are chosen and called. They do not pursue a hobby, they only exist in walking.

A bit too heavy to read, you can also hear Thoreau's philosophy about hiking via the YouTube link.

Do you rather go for a walk, rather than philosophizing about it? Here are a great set of hikes.

  3. Nodes instructions combined with street name instructions

    20 March 2025, 23:00

If you navigate via nodes, node apps will give you instructions about which node you should follow. But what about the navigation between two nodes? At that point you are required to follow the node signs (if they are still there) or consult a map.

With the RouteYou Turn-By-Turn navigation you receive nodeinstructions combined with street name instructions. A unique feature!

This means that you not only receive a message about the node you should follow, but that we also give standard street name instructions between the nodes. We thus guide you smoothly to the next node. So you no longer have to worry about missed or lost node signage.
