Shipyard "De Hoop" is a combination of a number of shipyards. The yard started in 1886 at Tolkamer near Lobith. It was completely destroyed during the Second World War. It was then modernized and rebuilt. A number of advanced ships were manufactured. From 1991 onwards, the company began to focus on ships for domestic passenger transport, such as large tour boats, while seagoing vessels were also built, such as the container ship "Carmen Dolores". In 1995, the Henry Dunant III was built. In January 1999, the former Verolme shipyard in Heusden was bought and renamed Shipyard De Hoop Heusden. In 2001, the Houma Fabricators yard in Louisiana was purchased in order to be able to operate on the American market. Each of these three yards had about 150 employees. Because they complemented each other, a greater variety of projects could be accepted. In 2004, the strategy was changed again. The yard in Heusden was sold in 2005 and the one in Louisiana in 2006. The knowledge available in the construction sites was bundled in a strong design department that also worked for third parties. On the other hand, in 2006 a shipyard in Foxhol, called De Volharding, was purchased. This is where De Hoop Foxhol started with 60 employees from De Volharding.
