The World Soil Museum has a unique collection of soil profiles. In doing so, it tells the story of the inestimable value that soils have for life on earth. The collection and associated data are so important that the museum can call itself the only UNESCO World Data Centre in the Netherlands.
Learn about the role of vibrant soil and ecosystems. Get an impression of the enormous variety of soil types in the world, such as soil from the colorful volcanic ash from Indonesia or man-made Terra Preta soil from the Amazon. The museum displays soil monoliths with associated data including a full profile description, chemical and physical data on the soil and information on the landscape and land use with a presentation that meets the needs of scientists, school classes and individual museum visitors
