The eastern part of the municipality of Peel en Maas is landscaped dominated by the Maas valley and the Maas terraces. The Meuse terraces can be visually recognized as flat parts in the landscape, bordered by a steep slope (terrace edge). The terraces are often used as arable land because they are flat and because of the fertile loess. Loess is a very fine-grained sediment that was deposited by the wind during the last two ice ages.
Where the terrace crossings have a considerable difference in height, the steep edges are often wooded and visible in the landscape.
