At Huize de Rijnschans the positioning area of the outpost strip began during the battle of the grebbe in 1940. Remains of a casemate that partly disappeared into the barn still bear witness to this.
From this place to the end of the Wageningen Afweg, the area to be defended was about a kilometer wide. Because the terrain between Wageningen and Rhenen was not flooded, it was a weak link in the defense of the Grebbeberg despite the outpost strip
