The Oostermaet is a 300 hectare estate. The farms are immediately recognizable by the red shutters with dark green border.
Around 1600 it was a large swamp with moors. As more land was cultivated, more farms were built. They were given beautiful names: Oostermaet, De Grote Brander, De Kleine Brander, Zomerdijk, Keurhorst, Oosterhof and Westerhof. Unlike most estates, there has never been a castle or manor.
The estate is now owned by the IJssellandschap Foundation.
