The Mullerthal Trail consists of three large hiking loops in the heart of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in addition to the three large loops, there are also several smaller loops that can be walked at an additional cost. This route takes you along the second and not so long loop of the Mullerthal trail, but make no mistake, it's a very challenging journey, not only in terms of length, but also through the many rock formations you'll encounter along the way. Some highlights along the route are the Schiessentümpel, Goldkaul, Rittergang, Wolfsschlucht and many others, the names will not tell you much, but we can already tell you that you will cross different gorges, via stairs from one rock to another ... In short, a spectacularly difficult journey.
The route is very well marked, you won't get lost, a hiking map is not immediately necessary. At many forks in the road there are signposts that illustrate this. Be careful, as the three routes overlap, always follow Route 2.
The starting point of the route is Echternach, you can always choose to start from another village in the region, from each village the access routes are clearly indicated. If you are leaving from Echternach, navigate to rue de la Gare to park, only the left part is free to park, the buses themselves are charged. In summer, the parking lot can fill up quickly.
Some tips:
- Plan at least 10 hours for this visit, due to the many rocky passages and the stairs involved, it is not possible to maintain a "normal" walking pace. It's time for breaks for lunch and a few patios for supplies.
- Be careful in hot summer weather, bring enough drinks for the go, and stop on a terrace in the villages you come across! 3 liters of water while traveling is not an unnecessary luxury!
- Bring a flashlight! At one of the ravines that you have to cross, it is necessary!
- There are still interesting rocky passages along the road that you can take with you during the route. For example, you can descend into an underground cave or see certain viewpoints.
