Description

The 28th of November 1655 Bologna presented a gigantic spectacle for Queen Christina of Sweden breaking here her journey to Rome. On the Piazza Maggiore, from the Palazzo d'Accursio at the west side to the fishmarket (now the Via Pecherie Vecchie) at the east side, a provisional theater modelled as a enormous ship was set up. In an allegorical play the glory of the city was celebrated. The show finished with a tournament in classic Roman style.
