Chestnut Grove Academy was formed, as Chestnut Grove School, in September 1986 by the amalgamation of Henry Thornton Grammar School (named for Henry Thornton (1760-1815) a local MP and economist) and Hydeburn School. It is a partially selective secondary school with academy status in Balham, London, England. It selects 40% of its pupils for places based on aptitude in art and design and general ability. It was the first Arts College in the United Kingdom. In their March 2008 inspection, Ofsted rated the school as Grade 1 Outstanding, the highest possible designation.
