This early 16th century building has half-timbering and corbels.
It takes its name from the coat of arms of the Crown Prince of France. Could it be that the weaver-manufacturer who once occupied this house had the honour of trading with the Crown Prince? The fact remains that the coat of arms of the eldest son of King François I is engraved on the corner post at the corner of the rue Célestin-Philbois and the rue Kléber, perhaps to indicate that the shop was a supplier to the royal house...
Restored in 2004, the six-bay Maison du Dauphin is typical of Trojan architecture, with its stained glass windows and corbels, and has a truss at the front on the rue Kléber and another at the rear.
Dauphin was the title borne by the lords of the principality of Dauphiné de Viennois , of which Grenoble was the capital. Since its incorporation into the Kingdom of France in 1349, the title has been awarded at birth to the eldest son of the French king, heir to the throne. When the dauphin died, his younger brother received the title in his place.
