Halfway between Saint-Emilion and Sauternes, the bastide town of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne was founded in 1281 by the King of England, Edward 1st. The parking and service area is close to a picnic area, the historic town center and shops (5-minute walk). The town overlooks the vineyards and is the administrative center of the Entre-deux-Mers region's most important wine-growing district. Bordeaux AOC (Red, White, Rosé, Clairet), Bordeaux Supérieur, Entre-deux-Mers and Crémant de Bordeaux wines are produced here. From a heritage point of view, the town has preserved the orthogonal layout characteristic of bastides, its central square lined with arcades and the remains of medieval fortifications. You can even visit one of the medieval towers.
