It is here near Auvers-sur-Oise that Vincent Van Gogh painted his famous "Wheatfield with Crows". We don't know if it is exactly this place, but it was certainly nearby and in a similar arable landscape. Wheatfield with Crows was painted on July 10, 1890, 19 days before his death. The ominous mood and also the location can indeed be linked to Van Gogh's suicide. It is said that this is the field where the artist shot himself in the chest 17 days after he painted the work. He himself wrote about this place: "When I came back here I went to work. The brush almost fell from my hands (...) It was not difficult to express sadness and extreme loneliness".
