Located 10 kilometers from the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, this monument commemorates the Meuse Argonne offensive, during which the First American Army retreated after 47 days of fighting from September 26 to November 11, 1918.
It was erected and maintained by the American War Memorial Commission, a U.S. government agency.
With a total height of 60 meters, it is topped by a statue symbolizing freedom. Visitors can access the observation platform (opening hours are posted outside), from which they can enjoy a magnificent view of almost all the ground conquered during this offensive, which was the biggest battle in American history at the time.
