The Gironde Estuary, the largest in Europe, has a series of islands. These islands have had multiple functions over time. Each was occupied by a micro company.
Opposite Pauillac, Patiras, which is said to have arisen in the Middle Ages, had a wine-growing vocation, sheltered from phylloxera. Now extinct, the lighthouse offers a beautiful view of the Estuary from the top of its hundred steps. The refuge next to the lighthouse, recently inaugurated, offers a careful restoration in an architectural setting that enhances the environment in which it is inserted.
