This site protected by the Conservatoire des Sites Lorrains is to be discovered thanks to an educational path of 5,5 km. The loop starts from the parking lot of the Menufosse pass and a path will guide you on your right towards the Rondfaing peat bog. A mysterious enclave nestled in the heart of the forest where mosses proliferate, it is one of the most beautiful of the Vosges massif. The peat bog of Rondfaing owes its name to its curved shape and to the presence of peat. It was born in a depression located at the foot of the Pierre des 4 Communes, during the ice ages. Over the millennia, sphagnum mosses, a kind of moss, have colonized this wetland. A flora with specific conditions
Here, the freshness and acidity conditions do not allow the degradation of the organic matter which slowly accumulates: the peat forms. Pioneer and adapted plants settle in: the cotton grass, the Drosera, the Cranberry but also the Callune © Conservatoire des Sites Lorrains
