In 1305, Henry I had a tower built on a rock, which dominated the plain of the Meurthe by 6 meters, which was named Tour des Voués (Voués means defenders) to protect the houses of the serfs. Access to the tower was through an opening in the rampart. This opening is clearly visible and is now walled up
The rest of the ramparts and the castle of Baccarat, built in 1330, were accessible through a vast vaulted passage, still used today by local residents and tourists
