Paul Claudel, French playwright, poet, essayist and diplomat, was born on 6 August 1868 in Villeneuve-sur-Fère in the Aisne region of France and died on 23 February 1955 in Paris. He was a member of the Académie française. He is the younger brother of the sculptor Camille Claudel, both children of Louis-Prosper Claudel, a senior provincial civil servant, born in La Bresse.
