Sierra de los Filabres GT

Route through the Sierra de los Filabres with a good portion of altimeters. Many sights through a beautiful landscape with breathtaking panoramic views.

The route departs in Cantoria towards the desert of Tabernas, which is known for the many shooting locations of the spaghetti westerns, among others.

After Tabernas you cross the Velefique pass (known from La Vuelta España 2021) for the first time to Bacares to follow the road to the Calar Alto Observatory where several giant telescopes are set up. This is also the highest point on the route.

From Calar Alto it is a long descent to Gergal and then back over the Velefique pass. At the 2nd passage you can get to the top of the Tetica, which is easily recognizable by the large radio masts on top. After the Tetica it is back to Bacares to continue to Bayarque.

In Purchena it goes up again to the Collado de la Madera. From there the route goes past Tahal and Benitorafe to Macael, which is known for its marble. After Macael, Olula del Río soon follows and you will encounter another specialty of the region. Cosentino's giant factory. Not much further is the end back in Cantoria

PS: Meat lovers can go to Serón for a regional specialty, where delicious Pata Negra comes from. Not on the route but worth a detour.
