The fort, known as Hins Ashar or Castle of Ashar , is an 8th-century Islamic structure.
It has a triangular design, truncated on the northeast side with the longer side facing south, and a large central space. It is surrounded by a wall with flanking towers on the south-east and south-west corners. The east side is crowned by a rectangular building that connects to the west side with a pentagonal tower in the bow and another tower in the east.
The original entrance to the castle was on the east side through a building attached to the primitive rectangular tower.
The fortress fell into disrepair over time. This decline was amplified in the 18th century , when the castle was transformed into the residence of the caretaker of the Duke of Sesa. The adaptation as a residence involved a real destruction of the castle: people did not hesitate to break the parapet to access the garden.
