The Almocabar Gate is part of the southern flank of Ronda's city wall.
It is one of the main gates. It was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. Almocabar is a word that originated from Al-maqabir which means cemetery. The city's main cemetery was nearby, outside the walls.
Another entrance was added in the mid-16th century, consisting of a semicircular arch with a Renaissance-style door topped by a large royal coat of arms supported by the Imperial eagle.
Over the years, the gate has been given different names : Ximena gate, San Francisco gate, Alameda gate or Caños gate.
