Teixidor-Bassacs House

The Teixidor-Bassacs house is the old ancestral home of the Teixidor-Bassacs family, and currently a museum, located in Gironella.

The house-museum is located in the Plaça de la Vila, near the Town Hall. Although there is no record of the exact date of its construction, it is considered one of the oldest buildings in the town, since it was built in an area very close to the castle and is part of the old town of Gironella. The couple formed by Joan Teixidor i Ballús and Raimunda Bassacs i Fornells were a couple of entrepreneurs from families of weavers and spinners from Berguedà. They are known for having founded the textile factory and the colony that ended up being the nucleus of Cal Bassacs. Before building the colony, however, they set up a small factory on the ground floor of what was their ancestral home. From 1861 to 1896, ten handlooms, a warp and a bowling machine operated in this house, and it manufactured cotton pieces using 7,500 kg of cotton per year around 1861.
