Climbing and descending in Germany in Eifel around the Rursee. The reservoir has the result that there are beautiful climbs and descents all around. The roads are perfectly paved and most climbs you can ride on the rim. You can gain a lot of speed in the descents, you will easily hit more than 60km/u. Because the bike lines are two sided it’s recommended to descend via the main road, as this will reduce the risk of collisions.

No fierceness of high peaks as the climbs fluctuates between the 6% and 8.5% gradient. But a few moments in the route are merciless. After a sharp right turn a wall of 16% pops up. A difference of almost 10% and that in just one turn, or a descent just ended and within seconds you’re facing 18% to 19%. But 'Der Hammer', the final climb for us after 128 kilometers, was unknown but may be feared. A triangle sign indicates a gradient of 15%. At 2/3 of the climb it drops below 10% for the first time having a max of 20.3%. This climb is just 1.9 km but heroic to climb.

Good to know, before you download our GPX. We started off by riding a gravel road. You start off with a rocky climb, but perfectly accessible with your road bike, and then you will be riding along a river. We were with the three of us and none of us had flat tyre. You can leave this part out and just continue riding on the road B258.

What will be your next ride.....???
