This route leads through the Ruhr area. The old, dilapidated industry was given a prominent role in recreation, art and culture. Ruhrstadt, as the metropolis is also called, will be the European Capital of Culture in 2010.

This route partly coincides with the well-known Industrial Heritage Route. This entire route is about four hundred kilometers long. There are no less than 52 places of interest; In addition to the settlements and panoramas (from gorges to slag heaps), the 25 so-called anchor points are particularly recommended.
