Auf dem Rennsteig (KC 4)*

Start & finish: Leisure center, Badstraße, 96361 Steinbach a.Wald

Route: From Steinbach a. Wald on the Rennsteig cycle path in the direction of Tettau to "Kalte Küche" near Spechtsbrunn and back. (*)

Route description: From Steinbach am Wald along the state road, the Rennsteig cycle path runs in the direction of Tettau. There are several small, gentle climbs to overcome. The destination and turning point of the tour is the "Kalte Küche" in Thuringia, a road junction just before the former German-German border. The former trade route from Nuremberg to Leipzig over the mountains was mentioned as early as the 9th century. There is a small refreshment stop here as well as the information center of the Thuringian Forest, Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale and Franconian Forest nature parks. From here, return to Steinbach a.Wald on the same route. (*)

Special features & sights: Steinbach a. Wald leisure center, "Red Tower", Tettau highland cattle, Kalte Küche nature park information center near Spechtsbrunn.

Possible detours: a) to the Ölschnitzsee lake near Windheim (branch off 2.5 km there and back) or b) to the European Flacon Glass Museum and the Klein-Eden Tropical House in Kleintettau (steep climb back!)
