The Elster Cycle Path leads from its source near Asch (Czech Republic) to its confluence with the Saale.
Description
In the lower reaches, the cycle route runs close to the river through the diverse Elsteraue.
This section (130 km), from Wünschendorf to its confluence with the Saale near Halle, is particularly family-friendly. It is almost entirely paved and has low inclines. Due to the narrow river valleys, the upper reaches cannot always run close to the river. Not all sections of the route are paved yet, and some altitude meters need to be overcome due to the existing topography, making this section more challenging. The beautiful landscape, interesting Elster viaducts, and towns like Bad Elster, Plauen, and Greiz compensate for the efforts. Intensive work is being done on the development of the Elster Cycle Path in the lower reaches, leading to significant improvements in recent years.
