On well-marked paths, you comfortably ascend to the right towards the mountain massif of the "Red Stone". There, at the Bakeder Oak trees, you will find a "Historical Point". Signs report that many villagers had to cross the Süntel Ridge on this route to work in various factories beyond the mountains on six days of the week. From an S-curve, a path then turns to the right, but continue on the main path until you reach another very distinctive S-curve. Continue until you reach the ridge path, which soon turns almost at a right angle to the left. There, at the 339-meter-high Brunshagen, a shelter with seating awaits hikers and cyclists. Later, a plaque commemorates the tragedy of the Panitz children. The three- and six-year-old children had followed their mother into the forest in October 1871 and, despite the villagers' desperate search, were found dead after days. Up to this point, the path is mostly uphill. Through small quarries and flower-filled paths, now go downhill to the left, passing by the parking lot and the Kreuzsteinquelle along the stream to the Hotel-Restaurant PappMühle. On the way back, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view, extending far into the country to the west and to the north to the Süntel with the rock of the Hohenstein. The path is now not as well-maintained as during the ascent. At a shelter behind the ancient cuckoo beech tree – next to which a young oak tree is growing towards its grand entrance – the marking indicates a narrow path to the left. It leads down to the edge of the forest to a seating area and then along the southern edge of the Westerberg to the road, which leads back to the starting point to the left.
