The start and finish of the family hiking trail is the FIT-Hotel in Berghausen, located about 1.5 km east of Much. The elevation offers a magnificent view of Much's town center. Near the hotel is the Germana Chapel with a large seating area. This invites you to a family breakfast, a picnic, or a break to recharge before the hike.
Along the way, there are ten question and answer stations on themes from Grimm's fairy tales to keep you entertained. But don't worry - if you have difficulties, Hedgehog "Isidor" will help with the solutions. As a reward for solving the riddles, a voucher awaits. However, only those who stamp the symbols at the hole punch stations in this brochure - and thus prove that they have mastered the trail - can redeem it (at the ARAL gas station in Much).
After the Germana Chapel, the path goes downhill to the district of Wersch. Here you will pass a beautifully designed insect "hotel" (privately run, with many explanations). The route continues to Berzbach (this section is not very suitable for strollers) to the Farmer's Museum. The privately run museum offers insights into the life of rural populations in bygone times. From large machines in the open courtyard to old equipment in the shed, there is plenty to see, touch, and learn. For example, children will learn that "Email(le)" is something completely different from an "e-mail". In addition to the exhibition rooms, there is a traditional wood-fired oven called a "Backes" where bread is occasionally baked (and can be purchased). A hand-operated machine demonstrates how butter was made in the past. In the outdoor area, children can get involved themselves: pumping water by muscle power is just as much a part of it as weighing themselves with an old potato scale. At a replica of a mill water wheel, young visitors are playfully taught how it works. An "Aries", a water pump that requires no external energy, is sure to amaze. Catering is available upon request.
For more information, contact the Tourist Information at 02245-610888 or the Museum at 02245-4623. Before the longest part of the hike begins, children can let off steam: from the museum, continue to the Berzbach playground. Whether it's a seesaw, climbing tower, or soccer field - there's something for every age group. From Berzbach, the trail leads to the Vogelsangen heights. Here, there is an impressive panoramic view of the Siebengebirge and, on a clear day, even the Eifel heights. Then it continues through shady high forest.
The last part of the route soon brings the tired hikers' feet back to the starting point at the FIT-Hotel. For example, if you start after a 10 a.m. breakfast at the Germana Chapel, it's now between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. - depending on the time spent at the question and answer stations. It's fortunate that the FIT-Hotel has a cozy outdoor area with a great view of Much. On weekends, waffles, cold, and hot drinks are offered there.
