Towers and mountains have always been considered places with a special view. By bike and on foot, you embark on an attractive active tour through our city. Starting at CottbusService, you cycle through Klosterstraße to Oberkirchplatz. Here you will be welcomed by the monument of Ludwig Leichhardt, the famous Australian explorer who spent his school days in Cottbus. Now, take on your first challenge and climb the church tower. The view over the rooftops of the city compensates for the efforts of the ascent. Cycle along Puschkinpromenade until you reach the Spree. Turn left before the Käthe Kollwitz Bridge onto the path leading downstream along the Spree and follow it to the next bridge, the Sanzebergbrücke. It is now recommended to take a short climb up Sanzeberg, which is often used by the people of Cottbus for a Sunday walk. For the continuation of the tour, once again use the pathway along the Spree from Sanzebergbrücke to Nordring, which crosses the Spree as a bridge for cars and bicycles. Leave the riverside path and use the road-adjacent cycle path over the Spree bridge to the roundabout. Turn right and cycle to the traffic light at Merzdorfer Weg. Cross the city ring and after about 2 km, you will reach the Cottbus district of Merzdorf.
Follow Merzdorfer Bahnhofstraße to the right and at the restored Merzdorf train station building, turn left onto L50 towards Cottbuser Ostsee. The observation tower is visible from afar. At the base of the tower, you will find comprehensive information about the former open-cast mining and the formation of the lake. 173 steps need to be climbed to recognize the huge dimensions of the future Cottbus Ostsee. After descending, turn left towards the small barrier and continue your journey on the descending asphalt road. After about 1.5 km, you will reach a fork in the road, turn right and after about 500 m, you will reach the ascent to Schlichower Höhe.
Enjoy the view from the top over the future lake or use the play and fitness equipment for some fun. Across the nearby bridge, after about 500 m, you will reach the district of Dissenchen. From there, the Branitzer Straße branches off to the left, leading directly to Branitz via Kirschallee. Passing the customs house, located directly on the federal road towards Forst, parking lot Kastanienallee, and the historic Parkschmiede, you will reach the district of Branitz. Follow Kastanienallee until you turn right into Pücklerstraße at the village center. Pücklerstraße will lead you through Branitz and continue as Kiekebuscher Straße. At the apex of the long right curve, a footpath leads into Branitzer Park.
From here, push the bike up to the clearly visible Hermannsberg. From a height of 15 meters, you will have an impressive view of the park with its land pyramid, waters, and winding paths. Now, start your return journey and reach Cottbus again via Kiekebuscher Straße/Kiekebuscher Allee along the tracks of the Parkeisenbahn, passing by the zoo and Spreeauenpark until you reach the city ring.
Follow the signs of the Spreeradweg until Franz-Mehring-Straße. Cross the traffic light and use the left bicycle lane towards the city center. The Spremberger Turm, the landmark of Cottbus, will greet you after about 1 km. The viewing platform is located at a height of 28 m and offers a spectacular panoramic view. Follow the city promenade along the tram tracks, which serves as a combined pedestrian and cycle path, back to the starting point at Stadthalle Cottbus.
