"What is a national park?" "What plants and animals can be found there?" or "What can I experience in the national park?" All of this can be discovered in the exhibition at the National Park Gateway Monschau-Höfen. For all those who discover the correct solution word in the Goalkeeper Quiz, there is a small gift.
Well informed, you can start a cozy half-day hiking tour right behind the National Park Gateway on the Wilderness Trail. First, the hiking trail leads downhill along mighty field hedges towards the Perlenbach Dam. If you're lucky, you'll see buzzards and hawks flying over the open land here. Later, follow the wildcat logo on the signpost to the left and arrive at a great root path through a dense spruce forest. Here, there is not only a picnic area, but also an interesting root path where you can hide perfectly behind the trees right by the wayside. Almost the whole time, you can hear the Perlbach babbling by. At the bridge to the Holländerhäuschen, the wildcat then turns left and you follow the Fuhrtsbachtal to the Antonius Bridge. The valley is part of a nature reserve and is known for the millions of blooming wild daffodils in spring, just like the neighboring Perlenbachtal. Then you continue over forest and hiking trails always following the wildcat towards the Wahlerscheid hiking parking lot; at 632m the highest point on the Wilderness Trail. Depending on the season, you can smell fragrant wild herbs in the romantic meadows and observe butterflies.
Tip: You can use the Venn Shuttle as a pick-up or drop-off service from Monday to Saturday.
Sunday tip: While the family visits the exhibition, one parent can drive the car to the Wahlerscheid hiking parking lot directly at the large ranger hat located on B 258 on Sunday mornings and return to the National Park Gateway with bus forest line 815 (Kall-Monschau, operates only on Sundays and public holidays). Then the family can start the hike together and decide on the return journey at any time.
*The Wilderness Trail is a hiking trail that leads in four stages through the middle of the Eifel National Park from Monschau-Höfen to Zerkall. Some sections are particularly suitable for families with children.
