A10 - Around the airfield Soest/Bad Sassendorf

The approximately 13 km long hiking trail starts at the town hall. From there, the path leads towards Lohne via Goethestraße, Rennweg, and the historic "Alten Hellweg", through Lohne to Sudweg.
The trail continues to the industrial park "Lohner Klei", a former British barracks site, and towards Soest/Bad Sassendorf airfield or once around the airfield.
Returning to Bad Sassendorf is via Sudweg and Köhlingsweg, through Lohne, over the historic "Alten Hellweg", and through the "Dichterviertel" to the town hall.
About the "Alten Hellweg": In the Middle Ages, the Westphalian Hellweg was the connection between the Rhine and Elbe rivers. Specifically, the Hellweg refers to the section between Duisburg and Paderborn on the route from Aachen to Goslar, which also passes through Soest and Bad Sassendorf. Charlemagne significantly expanded the road, securing it with castles and imperial courts. In heavily trafficked areas, the Hellweg was already paved in the Middle Ages, while elsewhere it remained a natural road until the time of the stagecoaches. Valuable trade goods included salt, which still holds great importance for Bad Sassendorf today. In the mid-19th century, the use of brine for medicinal purposes began here, laying the foundation for the present-day spa. Goods from the Hellweg spread throughout the Hanseatic League. The Hellweg is an ancient military and trade route and an important east-west connection of its time.
