From the cathedral city of Fürstenwalde into nature
Your late riser tour starts after a 30-40-minute train ride at Fürstenwalde train station. You follow the Oder-Spree-Tour towards Erkner and let the yellow owl guide you on the signs. We can recommend a short detour to the city's landmark. St. Marien is one of only two cathedral buildings in the state of Brandenburg and presents the largest organ in the state.
Perfect bike path with wonderful foresight
But now it goes quickly into nature. You come to Trebus. In addition to the lake with a small swimming area and the neat church, it is above all the GDR nostalgia that catches your eye. Collectors have recreated a historic gas station and a consumption, as the shops were called back then. It's worth taking a look over the fence. Car-free, you continue north on a solitary cycle path. Let your gaze wander, breathe in the vastness. In spring you fly over yellow, fragrant rapeseed fields. This is how cycling is fun!
Nature conservation at the Maxsee
Now you dive into the fragrant forest and the tour turns west. At the junction to the Neue Mühle manor there is a board that gives you exciting background information about the Maxsee, which is only a few meters away, and the adjacent Kalkmoor. Flowed through by the Löcknitz, the region with its quarry forest and swamp areas is a special protected area. The moor was renatured in the course of the initiative "nothing going on without moss". Meadow breeders and migratory birds such as the lapwing and crane benefit. You can make a short detour: we have marked the natural path to the lake that leads past the manor house for you in the routing.
Olympic vibe
We continue through the forest towards Kienbaum. Here you will pass the Olympic and Paralympic Performance Center on Lake Liebenberger See. A nice resting place is next to the rowing center right on the lake. Top athletes from a wide variety of sports train here in wooded air and far away from the hustle and bustle for the Olympics and co. Maybe you can watch the rowing athletes train. Fun fact: GDR top athletes once toiled in a bunker under the site. A height of up to 4,000 meters was simulated in a vacuum chamber in order to achieve better performance. The existence of the facility was meticulously kept secret.
Lake experience until the final
Meanwhile on the Radnetz-D-Route 3, the tour takes you under locust trees into livelier areas. Here at the Berlin garden neighbors you will pass five other lakes. The Bauernsee also attracts with its bathing area and a small sandy beach, as does the Elsensee lake that follows. The Möllensee shines not only with campers. You can also use the bathing area at the North Campground. The lakes are connected by rivers, small streams. In some places fish ladders were installed to make the access to the chain of lakes passable for migratory fish species.
There is also a stop-over at the Peetz and Werl lakes. Either in the idyllic beer garden at Heydewirth, in the popular Eiszauber ice cream parlor under the walnut tree or on the largest and most beautiful beach. On the north beach of Werlsee you have a particularly beautiful view of the lake and the love island in front of the sloping beach. Finally you roll into Erkner, cross the Löcknitz River and your late riser tour is nearing its end. If you want, do a final check at the tenth and last lake. You can even combine it with a sundowner in the Erkner bathing bar at Dämeritzsee. Cheers!
