Description by the author

Fridingen a. d. D. - Beuron. Through the heart of the nature park past mighty ruins, castles and caves to places of inner contemplation at Beuron Monastery

Highlights:
Danube seepage point near Fridingen a. d. D., Kallenberg ruins, Bronnen Castle, Bronner Cave, Jägerhaus Cave, Liebfrauental Valley, Beuron Monastery, historic wooden bridge, "House of Nature"

The towering cliffs between Fridingen and Beuron, crowned by ruins and castles, really bring out the diversity of the Danube landscape on this stage. The valley through which the Upper Danube flows is also known as the "Grand Canyon" of the country and this is no exaggeration - word of honor! The wonderfully dramatic landscape with water and rocks provides an interesting field of activity for many: cyclists, climbers, canoeists and hikers.

On the way, a short detour to the "Kallenberg" ruins is a must. The typical medieval hilltop castle with a fantastic view of the Danube valley invites you to take a break. Around 6 km further on, Bronnen Castle towers over the Danube valley like an eagle's nest (privately owned since 1950). And from there, a short detour down to the "Jägerhaus" restaurant rewards you for the hike so far, even if you have to climb back up the mountain a little afterwards.

The Archabbey of St. Martin, founded in 1077 as an Augustinian canon monastery and resettled as a Benedictine monastery in 1863, is also located in the valley of the young Danube. Beuron Archabbey is the founding monastery of the Beuron Benedictine Congregation, which currently has 16 monasteries in Germany, Austria and South Tyrol.

The former Beuron railroad station building has housed the offices of the Upper Danube Nature Conservation Center Foundation and the Upper Danube Nature Park Association since 1996. In the permanent exhibition in the "House of Nature", hikers can expect an exciting and informative tour through the Upper Danube Nature Park.
