Short description

The Hanseatic city of Werben and the Hanseatic city of Havelberg take us on this simple and cozy tour in the Altmark to swoon. To silently cross the Elbe with the rope ferries brings us to daydream.

Description

This micro-cruise with two ferries across the Elbe connects the impressive Hanseatic city of Havelberg with the no less impressive miniature-format Hanseatic city of Werben on the Elbe. But not only the silent ferry rides bring us to daydream, but also the natural Elbe landscape of the Flusslandschaft Elbe Biosphere Reserve in the Altmark.

On this easy 30-kilometer bike tour, there is enough time for sightseeing: the cathedral in Havelberg, the River Museum in Havelberg, the old town in Havelberg, and the Hanseatic city of Werben with its impressive brick church and picturesque town center.

In the middle of the bike tour, in the Elbauen, we will be greeted with the Büttnershof manor house for a pleasant rest with excellent hospitality.

The tour can also start from the Hanseatic city of Havelberg, then take the ferry to the Hanseatic city of Werben and return to Havelberg via the Büttnershof restaurant and the ferry in Sandau.

Directions

We ride through the Hanseatic city of Werben on the Altmark circuit to the ferry terminal in Räbel. The cable ferry takes us to Havelberg.

From the ferry terminal, we ride a few kilometers along the House of Rivers to the bridge over the Havel.

We ride through the city and up the steep Domberg to the cathedral.

The return journey is through the old town, where we also reach the Elberadweg.

We continue upstream on the Elbe until we reach Sandau and its ferry terminal.

From the ferry terminal, its just a few minutes to the Büttnershof, where we rejoin the Altmark circuit.

On the Altmark circuit back to the Hanseatic city of Werben.
