Bliesgau Blicke

A beautiful tour through the typical landscape of southern Bliesgau with diverse orchards, calcareous grasslands where wild orchids thrive, among other things, and great views.

The Bliesgau Blicke circular hiking trail is a varied but also challenging circular hiking trail in southern Bliesgau with several places to stop for refreshments in the town center.

The tour starts in Gersheim at the bus station and leads through the village over the Bliesbrücke bridge. There you can see numerous species of fish, herons and, with a bit of luck, a kingfisher. The tour leads past the Schäferbrunnen fountain and the Runden Brunnen fountain, uphill towards "Lenn" and the third fountain on the tour. Passing the historic town center with its church and the "Spohns Haus" ecological school hostel, the tour leads out of the town and offers great views of the typically gently undulating landscape of the southern Bliesgau with its orchards. The path is also lined with numerous fruit trees. After the field barn, the tour leads over the first Lachenbach stream to the Lachenhof farm. There, the path runs parallel to the orchid trail. For the next kilometer, the tour winds uphill on narrow paths, lined by the typical limestone grasslands of the southern Bliesgau with orchids (flowering period approx. April to June) and dry limestone walls. Along the way, interactive information stations provide a wealth of knowledge about the local flora and fauna and offer wonderful views of the surrounding area.Further up the path, hikers will find a sensory bench with birdsong to listen to and a phenomenal view over the Bliesgau and the orchards. The trail then continues to the Kalkquellsumpf, which has a moor-like character in places with its dense population of broad-leaved cottongrass. Before continuing into the forest, the Pfarrer-Lindemann-Hütte (refuge) invites you to enjoy a picnic. The route continues through the forest on the ridge of the "Hardt", the highest point of the tour. The circular route soon leads out of the forest again and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. On the way down into the valley, the trail passes Lohhof and the former Gersheim lime mine, where lime was mined for over 100 years.
