The Niddatal Dam blocks the Nidda River and the second tributary Läunsbach at the western edge of the Vogelsberg. The reservoir has an area of about 65 hectares. It is located in the Vogelsbergkreis near and within the city of Schotten in Hesse.
The Niddatal Dam – constructed from 1968 to 1970 – is owned by the Water Association NIDDA based in Friedberg and primarily serves flood protection and low-water replenishment in the Nidda during low flow periods. In addition, the dam also serves for power generation from hydropower as well as for local recreation or tourism.
