It is located on the east side of the city's market square and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the north is Markt 4, which is also a listed building.
The half-timbered house, referred to as a merchant's house in the Quedlinburg monument register, represents an early example of Lower Saxony's half-timbered construction. There are remnants of the design from the Renaissance period, in particular cylindrical beam heads. In the Middle Ages, the property served as the location of the guild house of the garment tailors and, from 1545, the clothiers. On the house there is a building inscription carved out of the wood with the year 1545. It is the oldest inscription dating in Quedlinburg. However, only the ceiling areas and thresholds date from this period. In this area, early examples of the use of fan rosettes have been preserved.
