The Harkotten von Korff manor house was built in 1806 by the architect Adolf von Vagedes (1777 – 1842) on behalf of the married couple Friedrich-Anton and Rosine Frhr. and Fr. von Korff zu Harkotten in the classical style.
In the years 1814 – 1816, the court painter of Rietberg, Philipp Ferdinand Ludwig Bartscher (1749 – 1823), was commissioned with the pictorial design of the interior walls of the entire ground floor of the manor house.
Due to the ensemble of contemporary architectural murals and the regional importance of the artist Rietberg, the interior design of the historic building deserves to be preserved and of public interest. The Herr Harkotten was recognized as a monument of national importance in 2017.
