The town is located seven kilometers west of Geldern, in the direction of the Dutch village of Arcen and has about 4800 inhabitants. The village is known as asparagus village (German: Spargeldorf) because many horticultural companies are located in this area, which grow a lot of asparagus, among other things. The town has a primary school and three kindergartens, and there is an open-air swimming pool in Walbeck.
