Sint-Nikolaaskerk

Description

The Sint-Nikolaas church has been rebuilt several times during the centuries. The first version dates back from the 12th century. You can still see a replica of the plans, dating from 1715, in the 'Broodhuis' on the 'Grote Markt'.
The church has some major artpieces such as Madonna with Sleeping child of Rubens. Just above the painting, you can see a canonball of 1695.
On the 6th of december, the celebration of the saint Nikolaas, the children put here their old toys to be given to unfortuante children which don't have the luxuy to get new toys.
