The Aywaille war memorial is located in the Parc Docteur Louis Thiry . It commemorates the military and civilian victims of the First and Second World Wars.
Slightly bent women with an olive branch stand at a high column. An olive branch is a symbol of peace in European culture. The olive branch represents peace, reconciliation and hope. The symbolism is very old, the olive tree grows slowly and needs rest and time to bloom. Where many olive trees grow there is apparently peace for a long time . That is probably why the Greeks used the olive branch as a symbol of peace.
The monument was inaugurated on October 11 , 1931.
The text on the monument: "LA COMMUNE D'AYWAILLE / A SES ENFANTS MORTS / POUR LA PATRIE".
Commemorative plaque on the left wall behind the monument: "LA COMMUNE RECONNAISSANTE / A SES VICTIMES MILITAIRES ET CIVILES / DE LA GUERRE 1940-1945".
