Chassepierre is home to a network of prehistoric galleries carved into the limestone thousands of years ago, known as the Trou des Fées (Fairy Well) because of the stories and legends that lull the place to sleep.
This exceptional witness to the geological times of the Tertiary was dug by man in the cron (limestone rock). The "cron" is a rock formed by the flow of water. It has been further excavated by man over the centuries, mainly to create cellars.
They continue under the foundations of the old mill and join the rectory where they join the cellars.
