In 1860 a chapel was consecrated in memory of the son George of Baron Frederic van der Bruggen who died young .
Masses were celebrated in this chapel, so that this chapel also came to serve the inhabitants of the area, whereby the trip to the Sint-Amanduskerk in Wingene could be avoided. The chapel was expanded in 1884 with aisles , a sacristy and a rood screen. In 1897 the chapel was elevated to a parish church. A new sacristy was added in 1947.
