The Tour de Monsieur Sax

This kiosk, called "le Tour de Monsieur Sax", inaugurated on November 6, 2019 , invites the stroller to go around it to enter it.

The Corten steel base of the kiosk, enamelled with humorous drawings from the era of saxophonists, satirizes what revolutionized the world of instrument making in the 19th century.

By rebuilding countless instruments and inventing four new families of instruments (saxophone, saxhorn, saxtuba and saxotromba), this genius of Dinant (1814-1894) revolutionized open-air music, giving it tonal power and precision that it had previously lacked . At that time he was only 31 years old!

Following the example of the military bands, which soon appropriated these new instruments, numerous brass bands also began to play the instruments as a kind of musical homage, which led to the founding of music kiosks in many places .

Knowing that Dinant had several kiosks between 1901 and the 1940s , the town of Adolphe Sax owed it to itself to reserve this very valuable 'music box' for all types of music.

This new tourist and cultural site offers an excellent setting for all of the city's music and arts. The existing and renovated 350-seat grandstand , to which the entire Princess Elisabeth esplanade can be added, allows the organization of concerts and socio-cultural events for all audiences.
