At the Tjenneboom you can enjoy a panoramic view of various villages of Heers, Sint-Truiden and Borgloon. The tree is located near Mettekoven, on the border of four municipalities: Voort, Mettekoven, Gotem and Hoepertingen. The tree is located on a hill of 92 meters high: the highest point in this area.
In the Dark Ages, "witches" were burned on this tree. The name "Tjenne" is said to be derived from Johanna or Anna Michiels, who is said to have been burned alive here at the end of a two-year trial against this 'witch' from Mettekoven.
At Tjenneboom you have a huge view over the beautiful undulating Haspengouw and on a clear day you can see a large number of church towers. Near the tree is also the monument to Tjenne.
