Bunker
Keerbergen has nine bunkers on its territory, six of which are in the Broekelei. These bunkers were part of a first bunker line built in the immediate vicinity of the "iron wall", a defensive structure that ran from north to south right through the Broekelei. A second bunker line was located a few kilometers west of this first line. The iron wall and the bunkers were part of the Belgian defensive line that ran from the Walloon Wavre to Koningshooikt and that was built just before the Second World War. During the occupation, on the orders of the Germans, all entrances to the bunkers were firmly bricked up. The iron wall was dismantled and transferred to the French coasts where it was re-erected as part of the "Atlantic Wal".
