Eight crew members of the bomber that was shot down on Midsummer Eve 1943 are buried under these simple gravestones of white Portland stone. Despite the hostilities, they were buried with military honours by the Germans. No civilians were allowed to be present, but the day after the funeral, the graves were adorned with flowers.
A memorial was erected at the place where the plane crashed, the Grote Meur.
