First mentioned in 1411. The domain remained in the hands of the Borluut family until 1744. The last private owner, Baron Mertens de Wilmars, sold the castle with park and Lindendreef to the municipality of Sint-Denijs-Westrem. After the merger, it came into the possession of the city of Ghent, which gave it a cultural function. Part of it is rented out to cultural associations. The upper floors house the international Ghent Festival.
